TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE.

Kyabram can be proud to have won the chance to participate in the MY HOME MY PLANET project. Because of our thriving community and passionate residents it well deserves the opportunity to receive the support of the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance and funding from Sustainability Victoria to help get its own climate change project off the ground.

The Kyabram project is only the third town to receive these honours and has been named 'Ky Can Do That!'. It aims to raise awareness of the relationship between climate change and energy use amongst Kyabram community members, and the financial and social benefits of changing some of our everyday choices in the home.

It can be this simple…..
IF EVERY KYABRAM HOUSEHOLD REPLACED JUST THREE CONVENTIONAL LIGHT BULBS WITH ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CFL’S, OUR TOWN COULD SAVE $70,000 IN THE NEXT YEAR.

Kyabram residents do not need to be told of the blow climate change has struck to our town, businesses, farms and families, and this is our chance to take some small simple steps to collectively reduce our town’s impact on climate change.

The project will involve…

  • The Ky Light bulb challenge: Calling for all community groups, individuals and businesses to form a team and compete to change over a maximum amount of conventional household light bulbs to environmentally friendly CFL bulbs. All teams members receive free CFL bulbs however winning team takes all glory, including the auspicious trophey and mug shot in the paper!
  • Energy Smart Workshops: Householders are invited to participate in fun & interactive group information sessions where you can meet others in your community, learn from specialists and each other, and take action to reduce your energy bills.
  • Building a leadership group: 'Ky Can Do That!' is a community driven project, therefore success will be driven by interested community members becoming involved. If you have ever thought there is more we should be doing to ensure a sustainable future – this is your chance.

Every little bit counts!

Come on Ky, let's show other small towns that if we all work together, big things can be achieved.  So invite your friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours to get involved and show why our town has won this opportunity.  You can register online here, or for further information phone Lisa Hawken at the Kyabram Shire Offices on 58513411, send an email to kycandothat@bigpond.com or have a look around this website.

Thanks to our partners the Campaspe Shire, Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance,
Department of Sustainability & Environment, Mingers Home Hardware and The Ky Free Press.
